    Welcome to each of you as you read this month’s electronic diocesan newsletter. As this newsletter is distributed throughout the diocese, we will all be welcoming a new Deacon to our diocese, Peter Doherty. A local from Bundaberg who studied at the University of Qld, worked in Brisbane, and is now returning after a few years in the seminary and formation as a deacon and next year as a priest for our diocese.

  • LeBreton Stem Hub opened at St Brendan’s College

    The College officially opened the STEM Building last Thursday, 13 July.

    Peter Doherty was ordained a Deacon on Thursday, 20th July.

    St Brendan’s College continue to show their talents in diverse fields: putting on an amazing musical and securing their 14th Confraternity Shield title

  • Turning of the sod at “Mercy Haven”

    A groundbreaking ceremony for Mercy Haven, a brand-new multimillion dollar aged care home in Rockhampton, took place on the 12th July.

  • Lunch with Priests and Religious

    It has become a welcome tradition for the Bishop to host a gathering of the priests and religious of the diocese.  This year the celebration was at the Red Lion Hotel, Rockhampton on the 22nd June.

  • World Youth Day – Lisbon

    On the 28th of July 32 pilgrims from our diocese will depart Brisbane for the 2023 World Youth Day in Lisbon, Portugal. The theme for this year’s World Youth Day is from Luke 1:39, “Mary arose and went with haste.”

    Emmanuel Catholic Primary School, Mackay are the 2023 Catholic Schools Challenge Cup overall championship school following the staging of this year’s three-day Challenge Cup carnival held in Yeppoon in the first week of Term 3.

    Exploring the topic Co-Responsibility for the Mission Fr Richard Lennan engaged many from across the diocese during a two-day formation gathering held at the Rockhampton Leagues Club in June this year.
