Formation in the Diocese

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

-Matthew 28:19

Formation is central to our mission in the Church to share the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ to the whole world and  Our diocesan plan for 2023-2028 identifies as a priority that we would “Provide intentional and ongoing faith formation for all.” Formation also equips us to live out one of our other pastoral priorities that all the people of God would be co-responsible for the mission of the Church. This is a challenge to all of us to be leaders in the various ministries throughout our Church and to continually be open to engaging in formation so that we can be “authentic witnesses of the Christian life” (Evangelii Nuntiandi 41).

Below are some upcoming opportunities for formation that we encourage you to consider participating in. If you are interested in one of the below opportunities but cost is an issue, or if you have any ideas or suggestions for formation that you would like to receive then please get in touch at

Mystery of Prayer Webinar

The second webinar in our Catholic Formation Series is I have been very zealous for the LORD – The Mystery of Prayer with Sr Jone from the Sisters of Mary Morning Star in Brisbane. The presentation will be a reflection on the mystery of prayer following the story of the Prophet Elijah and how to elevate our soul towards God and respond to His personal invitation.

The Sisters of Mary Morning Star were founded in Spain and have had a presence in Brisbane since 2019. Sr Jone is originally from Lithuania but has been in Brisbane for the past 18 months. The sisters have a contemplative charism that calls them to a life of silent prayer centered on the mystery of the Eucharist. They seek to follow St John the Evangelist in order to take Mary into their home and with her, be united to Jesus offering His life to the Father. Their daily life consists of silent prayer, study of scripture, philosophy & theology, and manual work.

How to Hear from God Women’s Retreat

The Webinar will be held on Zoom from 7pm to 8:30pm on Tuesday the 9th of July. This will include time for group discussion and questions for Sr Jone. The Zoom details can be found on the registration page.

The Sisters of Mary Morning Star will also be running a retreat for women at St Patrick’s Church Calliope from 10am to 3pm on Saturday the 13th of July. This retreat will include lunch, adoration, reconciliation and Mass. For more information or to register, contact Laura Gunston at

Catholic Foundations – A People on Mission

Catholic Foundations is a formation program offered by the Archdiocese of Brisbane which is open to all Catholics but especially for those who are volunteers involved in a ministry of the Church. A People on Mission is the 4th and final module of the program, however, each module is a stand-alone program and does not require participation in the previous modules.

What Is This Module About?

This module engages participants in an exploration of what it means to be a people on mission. This will include investigating the call to evangelisatiion, exploring evangelisation in the context of parish and family life, as well the role of evangelisation in the wider community. This module will also look at how we can make missionary disciples in our parishes and faith communities and present practical ways that the church calls us to go forth on mission.

Who Is It For?

This course is designed with all baptised Catholics in mind, particularly:

  • Those who want to grow deeper in their love for God and others
  • Those preparing for the ministries of lector, acolyte and catechist
  • Those who are parish staff or volunteers who do not have any formal theological qualifications
  • Those who want to share their faith with others.

The program runs from 7pm to 9pm on Monday nights starting on 22nd of July for 9 weeks. Each session will consist of a presentation, discussion and prayer.
