A message from our Bishop
Over these years, I have been privileged to work alongside you in the way Pope Francis called us to be; co-responsible for the mission of the Church. This has manifested itself through the marvelous outreach of our people through the Parish ministries, welfare ministries and other Diocesan ministries.
If you wish, you can assist and ensure these ministries’ legacy well into the future by remembering the Church and her mission when making your Will. Many people may not have previously considered such a possibility. I commend such consideration to your generosity.
Bishop Michael McCarthy
When you confirm a gift in your Will to a Parish or ministry in the Diocese of Rockhampton, you become a Companion of The Society of St Joseph. It is our way, as a Diocese, to acknowledge one of the greatest commitments you can make to support the legacy of our Faith in our Diocese.
The Society bears the name of St Joseph; here in Central Queensland, we have a special relationship with St Joseph. As well as being the Patron of the Catholic Church, he is the Patron Saint of our Diocese and the protector of our Diocesan church – St Joseph’s cathedral.
Each of us can discover in Joseph – the man who goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet and hidden presence – an intercessor, a support and a guide in times of trouble. Saint Joseph reminds us that those who appear hidden or in the shadows can play an incomparable role in the history of salvation. A word of recognition and of gratitude is due to them all.
Pope Francis, Patris Corde
The Society of St Joseph honours this special commitment, acknowledging that a gift is often given from the proceeds of a lifetime of work. The Society of St Joseph enables us to give special recognition to those who, in a small, quiet way, contribute to the legacy of our Catholic Faith into the future. As a Companion of the Society of St Joseph, you will be invited to join a special service with the Bishop of Rockhampton, presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and a special pendant depicting our bequest emblem, the Holy Family.
Our Bequest Emblem
Our Emblem depicts the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary, Mother of God and St Joseph. It portrays St Joseph embracing St Mary and Jesus, supporting them with one arm each, expressing his love and support as provider and protector of the Holy Family. It reminds us how the path of the family of God and its future is:
‘woven together and sustained by ordinary people, people often overlooked. People who do not appear in newspaper and magazine headlines, or on the latest television show, yet in these very days are surely shaping the decisive events of our history’.
Pope Francis, Patris Corde
Our emblem for the Society of St Joseph signifies how our Companions mirror the heart and ministry of St Joseph in playing a vital and enduring role in the work of God’s family in this Diocese ensuring it continues well into the future.
