Diocesan Pastoral Council
The Diocesan Pastoral Council assists the Bishop in the pastoral governance of the Diocese and works co-responsibly with other participative Councils.
The Council serves to promote and support the evangelising mission of the Diocese, working in collaboration with the Bishop, to foster the spiritual and pastoral life of the Christian faithful. The Bishop may freely choose to consult the Diocesan Pastoral Council on matters of importance in the life of the Diocese.
The Diocesan Pastoral Council seeks to call all the people of the Diocese into a relationship with Jesus Christ and as his disciples to participate co-responsibly in His mission. The members are to be selected in such a way that they truly reflect the entire portion of the people of God which constitutes the Diocese, with consideration given to the different areas of the Diocese, social conditions and professions, and the role which they have in their apostolate, whether individually or joined with others.
The Pastoral Council considers and proposed practical conclusions about those things which pertain to pastoral works in the Diocese. In fulfilling its role, the Council will:
- search out and respond to the hopes, ideas, needs and concerns of parishioners
- grow in knowledge and awareness of what is already happening in the Diocese
- encourage and support the good work of existing groups within the Diocese
- evaluate carefully information gathered in order to contribute towards the making of decisions that reflect the values of the Gospel and the teachings of the Church
- set long-term and short-term pastoral goals for the Diocese
- provide opportunities for the people of the Diocese to grow in their relationship with God and with each other
- develop, implement and improve Diocesan initiatives that assist parishioners in living their baptismal call to be disciples of the Risen Lord and taking co-responsibility for His mission.
The Pastoral Council generally meet four times per year, with two in-person meetings and two online meetings.
