Each Diocese is to have a Priests’ Council which acts as a kind of ‘senate’ or advisory body to the bishop. The council is to give expression to that special relationship that exists theologically between the bishop and his priests.

The bishop is obliged to consult the Priests’ Council on matters of importance and in specific instances as outlined in canon law. This council is the primary source of counsel to the bishop so that the pastoral welfare of the diocese might be effectively promoted.

In this Diocese the Priests’ Council is made up of members elected by their fellow clergy, and the Vicar General and Director of Clergy Life & Ministry as ex-officio members.
