Saturday 28th January was Father Jomon’s last weekend Mass at St Mary’s Church. At the end of Mass Father Jomon was quite ably farewelled by Alan Guilfoyle who presented Father with a gift from the grateful parishioners.
Timor Leste nurses studying in Mackay join the Walkerston Parish. Mackay Street Chaplain, Niki Vella-Power and her father Tony Vella were guests and speakers at the Men’s Dinner.
A group of mums have formed Mother Effect to support each other in teaching their children the faith, while in January the Filipino community invited all to join them in celebrating Sinulog.
While pastoral needs and outreach are rightfully the work of the Catholic Church, the reality is that resources (money, people and buildings) are used to provide for this mission.
While many local Parishioners had travelled away at this time, the 11:00 Mass was celebrated with about 30 people, from 8 Nationalities, ( USA, Czech, Maltese, Indian, South African, Madagascan, Philippines, Vietnamese) a true reflection of Local Church here.
