News from Springsure
09 March, 2022During the past couple of years Frs Truc and Yon have developed strong connections within our community. Fr Yon has now left us to commence studies in Rome but, fortunately, Fr Francois has joined us and brought a beautiful singing voice with him! Fr Francois originally hails from Madagascar and lists music and sport (basketball, soccer and volleyball) as some of his hobbies. Fr Francois was recently ordained as an SVD priest in Melbourne and describes being appointed to the parishes of the Central Highlands as his first love. The SVD priests traditionally describe their first appointment in this way. Welcome Fr Francois!
Before Fr Yon left us, we took the opportunity to farewell him and provide him with some warm clothing which we thought might come in handy in the Roman winter! We wish him well and look forward to his possible return for a short time from July so that Fr Truc can enjoy some long-awaited home leave in Vietnam.
We also welcome Selena, Colin and Louis Cutting to our parish family. Selena is the new Principal at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic School, and having grown up in the Central Highlands herself, is well aware of the special nature of our communities. Louis has also settled in well, feeling very comfortable with Fr Truc at a recent shared meal following Mass! Frs Truc and Francois also took the opportunity to address the Year Six students at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic School recently.
We are rapidly winding down to our annual St Patrick’s Day Races to be held at the Springsure Racecourse on 19th March. This is always a wonderful event for Springsure providing an opportunity for patrons to gather from near and far. If you can’t make it this year, you might like to put 11th March 2023 in your diaries now as the St Pat’s Race Club will celebrate its 70th race meeting on that date!
