Sr Noreen’s Golden Jubilee

Sr Noreen wished to celebrate her Golden Jubilee as a SMSM (Marist Missionary Sister) by giving to the Star of the Sea Parishioners the opportunity to participate in a mid-week 3-Day Reflection, a Saturday Reflection Day and a Mass on Monday 15th August (Assumption) to be followed by a dinner.  As part of the Mass, Sr Noreen wished to renew her vows.

The Golden Jubilee Mass was celebrated at St Peter Chanel Church; Tannum Sands: 15th August 22, with a concelebrated Mass.  Bishop Michael McCarthy was the principal celebrant, Father’s Andrew Chase, Ashwin Acharya and Paul Mahony SM were co-celebrants.  It was a joyous and solemn time reflecting the importance of the occasion.

A broad community section was in attendance, with people from Tannum Sands and Gladstone Parish communities, the Anglicans, the Interfaith Group, the Marist Missionary Sisters, the Marist Laity, Mercy Associates not forgetting Sr Noreen’s Family and friends. Over 130 plus were in attendance.

It was very moving to see Sr Noreen renew her vows along with her five SMSM Sisters

There were many to be thanked.  Meridith Grove (St Francis School, Tannum Sands) was of great assistance in compiling the Liturgy. Annie Hooper provided the music and  Kathleen Roby (Watts) and Janine Lester sung a beautiful Communion reflection.  Tannum Sands sacristans did an outstanding job preparing the church.

New Life Group

We gather every second Friday in our Parish Hall for Praise and Worship and a teaching. Our group is welcoming and inclusive of all.

At present we are studying The Mass over five weeks. We are looking at why we do what we do at Mass and what it all means. It is wonderful and it is being enjoyed by all. We are coming to a new and deeper understanding of this precious sacrament.
