Rite of Christian Initiation of Children at North Rockhampton

13 April, 2022

This year in the North Rockhampton Catholic Parishes we have six wonderful children who are preparing to receive sacraments in June.

What is special about this group of six children?

They are all of catechetical age, ranging from seven to twelve years of age, and are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist to be celebrated together at the Pentecost Vigil Mass!

This group has met together during the Sunday Masses of Lent for catechesis sessions and have participated in the Rite of Acceptance and in the Penitential Rite (Scrutiny) with their families.

They will also join with other children, of the same age, in the Parish sacramental program for Confirmation and Eucharist.

During our catechetical sessions, we have explored the importance of names and our identity, the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and the symbols of Baptism. In each session we have used Godly play to ‘wonder’ about the scripture stories of the Good Shepherd, Jesus’ Baptism, and the theology of Baptism.

Each session is activity based to allow these children time to talk together, ask questions and enjoy the preparation before they receive all the Sacraments of Initiation together.

They are a group of children who are excited and a little bit nervous about their journey of faith and I am privileged to be a small part of their preparation.
