TCC Delivers

15 February, 2022

Staff from The Cathedral College, Rockhampton completed a 900km return road trip to Alpha rounding up Boarders from across the Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields to distribute laptops and textbooks ahead of online learning last month.  Warm smiles and cheery hellos greeted TCC Boarding staff arriving at Blackwater, Emerald and Alpha with a bounty of learning resources destined for Boarding families from as a far west as Longreach who were delighted at the delivery.

Boarding parents, families and friends rallied to collect laptop devices and textbooks to ensure they made it into the hands of their children before online learning started for Year 8 – 12 students.

Assistant Principal: Boarding Ron Armstrong said it was an incredible team effort relying on a great sense of mission and community to ensure Boarders were ready to learn.  “Our mission calls us to provide a quality Catholic education to all our students. This galvanised College IT and Library Staff to organise bundles of laptops and textbooks for each delivery point and Boarding staff who coordinated the different pick-up points with parents.  When we arrived, the gratitude was palpable and the excitement overwhelming”.

“Thank you to our Boarding parents, friends and extended families who rallied and collected devices for others helping new and existing families by transporting a number of devices and textbooks,” he said.  “That’s what community is all about.  We are so blessed to have Boarders as part of our college who really pull together in challenging circumstances.”

The Cathedral College has a student population of 1330 including 187 Boarding students. Girls’ Boarding is located in Rockhampton’s iconic, century-old Genazzano building atop The Range in Agnes Street, and Boys’ Boarding features a contemporary, purpose-built facility within the College precinct accessed via Derby Street.
