Rodeo at St Brendan’s College

14 September, 2022

St Brendan’s College recently wrapped up its annual SBC/9 Mile Investments Rodeo for 2022.  Once again, the event was a massive success and the College expressly thanks the wonderful backing from sponsors, parents and staff who without their support would not make this event possible.

The College boasts the only school-based rodeo club in the nation and a large portion of the success that students experience in this arena can be attributed to the opportunity the Rodeo Club and the annual Rodeo affords them.  Parents Cass and Luke Ahern acknowledge the unique arrangement:
‘We appreciate that the college gets behind these boys and provides them with this unique opportunity and the commitment is certainly showing in the results.’

Principal Mr. Robert Corboy says that the Rodeo and Rodeo Club ‘is not your usual excursion process.  “We need to get stock on site, ensure all the correct people are instructing our students and that we maintain a safe and structured learning environment.  It is important to our college community that we support all our boys in their extracurricular activities. St Brendan’s is unique in that we have our own rodeo arena, a tradition that has been with the college since 1978.”

The college has invested in new rodeo chutes and tiered arena seating this year which further cements its commitment to continuing the Rodeo Club and the annual Australian Professional Rodeo Association-affiliated event at the college.

This year saw over 300 competitors and over 4000 people through the gates.  The format of the event seems to work extremely well, not only appealing to competitors and general rodeo goers but also attracts many locals to what is a great, unique family day out.
