19 June, 2023Visit of Mr Ron Higgins
Back in the 1960’s Ron Higgins drew up the plans for the Eton Church. Recently his sons brought him up to Mackay to celebrate his 90th birthday. While here he, along with his sister Mary Higgins, took the opportunity to visit the church with which he had so closely been involved. His sister, Therese Madam arranged to get the key from the parish office.
Holy Cross Church, Eton was officially blessed on the 13th of January 1964 by Most Rev F R Rush DD Bishop of Rockhampton.
The first Sunday Mass was celebrated in the Church on the 19th of January 1964 by the Australian Provincial Superior of the Scalabrinians, Rev. Fr Corrado Matellozzo.
