News from Emerald

19 February, 2024

The New Year commenced on a sad note with the passing of two, much loved, stalwarts of St Patrick’s Parish and Emerald communities.
Michael (Mike) Burns passed away January 2nd and Gerard Pearce passed away January 17th. Mike and Gerard were long time parishioners involved in many ministries, committees, and parish life over the years.

Mike’s son Joseph spoke of a father who loved his family deeply, made a priority of service to the community and a Dad who was always a constant source of support and unconditional love …
“With his family Dad’s belief in serving others, his duty, honour, loyalty and respect for all people would be instilled in us by his constant example.”

Gerard’s brother-in-law, Tony Ferris, spoke of a man who overcame many trials and challenges, whilst never losing sight of his love of family, of his strength of faith and service to community.

Mike is survived by his wife Ros, six children and 2 grandchildren. Gerard is survived by his wife Mary, 5 children (2 deceased) and many grandchildren. Both would celebrate 50 years of marriage this year.

Staff celebrated Fr Truc and Cathy Chapman birthdays during January and February.
