13 March, 2023Children’s Sacramental Programme
This has begun, with 62 children registered for preparation. We always begin our journey by remembering our origins, our baptism into God’s family. Much emphasis is placed on this significant first step into the life of Jesus Christ. On the weekend of February 18th & 19th the children and their parents participated in a Ritual of Remembering Baptism, where once again, the parents were reminded of their promise to nurture their child’s faith and to sign them once again with the Sign of the Cross.
The season of Lent is the perfect season then to begin preparing for the sacrament of Reconciliation. Lent is about falling in love again with Jesus Christ. The children are examining their consciences based on how well they have shown love to God, others, and themselves. The children are preparing for their First Reconciliation on Thursday, 23rd March, 6.00pm in Holy Rosary church.
New School Year
The school year began with Opening School Masses followed by the induction of the school leaders. Fr Don, Fr Sijo and Fr John Daly welcomed the school communities to another year and prayed for the teachers, students, staff and parents at all four Catholic schools in Bundaberg. We wish them a fruitful year of learning.
Ash Wednesday in Kindy
It is an eye-opening experience to see the looks on the faces of 4-year-olds in the presence of a priest in a long white garment, the alb. Fr Sijo led a simple Ash Wednesday prayer and distribution of ashes with the children of St Joseph’s Kindy on Ash Wednesday. The reactions ranged from excitement, to awe, to bashfulness, to fear! They could say the word Amen and make the sign of the Cross. It’s a start.
