NAIDOC celebrations at St Ursula’s College

22 July, 2025

St Ursula’s College celebrated this year’s NAIDOC Week theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision, and Legacy, through a variety of events and activities during the first week of Term 3.

Cultural Captains, Shaylesia and Amy, led Monday’s prayer and reflection on Assembly after Holly-May performed the Welcome to Country. Shaylesia explained that this year’s NAIDOC Week theme is about celebrating past achievements and focusing on the bright future ahead, empowered by young leaders and the legacy of their ancestors.

On Tuesday, College Principal, Deborah Ryan, Assistant Principal – Identity and Mission, Kathy Strelow, and Community Officer, Kat Whitham, accompanied students to Holy Family Church in Rockhampton, where they shared in a special NAIDOC Mass. Joined by students from the different Catholic schools around the Rockhampton region, the congregation was led in the Mass by Bishop Michael McCarthy.

Thursday’s College-based NAIDOC activities included rock painting in the central courtyard. Once dry, the rocks will be placed in the Yarning Circle. The girls were particularly excited to have Sr Marion Kingston (past Principal of St Ursula’s College) join in the rock painting activities.
