Mackay Mens Monthly Dinner
17 May, 2021There was a good roll-up for our Mackay Mens Dinner Club on Tuesday 27th April. Chairman Kevin McEvoy welcomed 24 members.
After the prayer to Mary McKillop, Rex Fraser gave the reflection. Kevin McEvoy said Grace and an enjoyable meal was served.
Our guest speaker Joseph Doherty gave an amazing talk.
Joseph started his career as an apprentice Fitter and Turner at Farleigh mill and after finishing his apprenticeship he continued on with Engineering studies.
Overseas work was sought, and Joseph ended up working in many countries including Indonesia, Zambia, Papua New Guinea, Egypt, Mauritania, Mongolia and many other places. Joseph had to deal with many situations such as tribal warfare, language, propaganda, revolutions, culture, climate and snakes(in Zambia).
Joseph worked for over 25 years in various roles such as engineering and consulting. His working arrangement was on a fly in fly out basis. Because of the Corona Virus, Joe returned to Mackay and once again is enjoying the Mackay lifestyle.
Our next dinner on Monday, 31st May will be at the Boomerang Hotel. Our guest speaker will be Dr Maree Ganley. New members and visitors are always welcome.
