Lights of Christmas

15 November, 2023

The Lights of Christmas are back. For seven nights from Sunday 17 December until Saturday 23 December, our beautiful St Joseph’s Cathedral in Rockhampton will be adorned with the Lights of Christmas.

For three years from 2017 until COVID intervened, the Lights of Christmas Spectacular captivated the people of Rockhampton with its enchanting beauty. But now it is back and the young and the young at heart will have the opportunity to witness a Spectacular that will leave you spellbound and alive with the spirit of Christmas.

Lights of Christmas Committee Chair, Mr Rob Alexander, said he was very grateful to the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton and Bishop Michael McCarthy for hosting this much-loved community event at St Joseph’s Cathedral.

Mr Alexander praised the amazing technical expertise and experience of Illuminart Australia who have been engaged once again this year to project the Lights of Christmas on to the Cathedral. “Illuminart have done an outstanding job in previous years, and we are very pleased once again to have access to their talent and creativity to provide a spectacular Lights of Christmas for our community” Mr Alexander said.

The Lights of Christmas 2023 will use St Joseph’s Cathedral as a canvas to display approximately 25 minutes of animation and Christmas cheer. Shows from previous years, (‘The Nutcracker,’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘The Night Before Christmas’) have been revitalised to form a rotating show.

The first Lights of Christmas show will be at 7.30pm each evening with the last show concluding around 10pm. With the show rotating throughout the evening, whenever you come along, you will get to see the Lights of Christmas Spectacular. Attendance at the Lights of Christmas is free, so it is truly an event for the whole community to enjoy. The reason that such high-quality entertainment can be presented to families free of charge is due to the wonderful support of some generous sponsors.

Event Partner for the Lights of Christmas 2023 is CatholicCareCQ and Mr Alexander said it was very exciting to have an organization that makes a significant contribution to the local community supporting the Lights of Christmas as the Event Partner.

Mr Alexander also thanked the Rockhampton Regional Council for their generous sponsorship of the Lights of Christmas along with all the other valued sponsors including: Catholic Education, The Cathedral College, Emmaus College, Bravus, Swanwick Murray and Roche, Frenchville Sports Club, Q Mag, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Wandal, St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, Rockhampton, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Park Avenue, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, North Rockhampton, St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School, North Rockhampton and St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, Gracemere.

So please highlight in your diaries Sunday 17 December to Saturday 23 December from 7:30pm-10pm to visit St Joseph’s Cathedral to view the CatholicCareCQ Lights of Christmas Spectacular. It is a spectacle you and your family will not want to miss.
