Increasing Mackay’s surgical capacity

On the 12th April the perioperative theatre expansion at the Mater Private Hospital Mackay was opened. Bishop Michael blessed the new facilities with the opening ceremony led by Mater’s Chief of Mission, Alanna Jacoby and Mackay General Manager Karen Wade. The leadership team, joined by Bishop Michael and Sr Denise Hinton rsm, unveiled the plaque.

This increase and improvement of services to the people of Mackay was well celebrated.  A wide range of people attended including local Members, Andrew Willcox and Julieanne Gilbert, along with Mayor Greg Williamson.

A tour of the new facilities was offered, though guests wanting to see the new theatre had to change into scrubs to maintain the sterility of the area.

The expansion includes the opening of a sixth operating theatre, new sterilisation and storage areas, and upgraded patient waiting areas and holding bays.
