Pope Francis created the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors in 2014 to ensure that the Church across the world continues to do everything possible to prevent the sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults. His urging is for that change to be rooted not only in the Gospel but also in the fundamental principles of safeguarding as established by the international community and enshrined in the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child.
