Making a Complaint or Disclosure
Anyone can make a complaint or disclosure about how the Church operates and how its personnel conduct themselves. Only by grievances being raised can the Church address its problems. To make a complaint or disclosure, you can take it up with either your local Parish Safeguarding Representative (PSR), the Diocesan Professional Standards and Safeguarding Office (PSSO): 1800 830 113, or the Professional Standards Office, Queensland (PSO Qld): 1800 337 928.
Should I make a complaint or disclosure?
If you become aware of any potential abuse or misconduct, then please disclose this to the PSR, PSSO or PSO Qld.
What if I receive a complaint or disclosure of abuse or misconduct?
Remember the 3Rs of responding to a disclosure of abuse or misconduct.
- Respond – be patient and listen
- Record – Note everything you can using their words
- Report – If immediate danger, report to the police. Also report to the PSR, Parish Priest, PSSO or PSO Qld.
