News from the Capricorn Coast

16 November, 2023

We are now back in Mary Immaculate Church with our beautiful new carpet. Thank you to everyone who stripped the church and to those who reassembled and dusted and dusted!!

We enjoyed our usual shared meal at Mary Immaculate Church, while this year Sacred Heart were treated to a multicultural ‘morning tea’ – more like a meal, on the first weekend of the month.  This followed the annual Multicultural Mass. At this Eucharist, the Liturgy of the Word was heard in Hindi, Vietnamese and Tagalong, as well as English.  A Filipino choir lead the singing.   Afterwards we shared in Filipino and Vietnamese food – delicious.

Melbourne Cup was upon us very quickly, and due to falling numbers in the previous year for our luncheon, it was decided to just have a multi-draw raffle and a sweeps raffle. This went very well due to Tess Beard and her helpers, who produced some beautiful prizes much to the delight of the lucky winners. Thank you, ladies.

St Benedict’s held its annual Twilight Fair – yet another resounding success.  The local business community was generous with prizes for the raffle – over 100 went to lucky ticket holders.  The ‘rides’ get better and bigger and are a heady attraction to the local children.  The other stalls make a visit well worthwhile for those too old to do the rides.

Congratulations were given to Fr Matthew at the weekend Masses for his 19th year Anniversary of his ordination. We pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide you and bless you in the years ahead.

Our monthly “Meet in the Middle” held at the Marina, was another enjoyable morning.  We gather to just enjoy each other’s company, share stories, and drink in God’s beautiful creation which surrounds us. Our next gathering will be held on Monday December 11th, commencing at 10am. Please feel free to join us if you are in the area.
