News from Mackay

19 June, 2024

The weekend of the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of the Lord was celebrated with great excitement in the parishes of North Mackay and Farleigh with 78 newly confirmed young people making their first communion. However, the festivities began with the arrival Bishop Michael and Archbishop Charles Balvo on Friday evening.

A reception was held at St Patrick’s Hall to welcome the Apostolic Nuncio to Mackay and to congratulate Bishop Michael on the occasion of his 10th anniversary as Bishop of Rockhampton. To mark the occasion the people of the Mackay region gifted a crozier to the bishop that will be used  when he is on his pastoral visitations to our parishes. Many people contributed to the success of the evening and all can agree that it was a wonderful and fitting celebration.

On Saturday morning Archbishop Charles presided at the Confirmation Liturgy and with Bishop Michael confirmed 78 young people who had been journeying throughout the year to complete their initiation in the Church. It was a wonderful celebration with beautiful music and again it would not have been possible without the time, effort, and energy of many people who all made a significant contribution to ensure a prayerful and joyous occasion. This all culminated in the newly confirmed receiving the Body and Blood of our Lord for the first time at the parish Masses throughout the weekend.
