Celebrations for Laudato Si and Reconciliation

The Parish celebrated the conclusion of Laudato Si week, National Sorry Day and the commencement of National Reconciliation Week at Masses on the weekend of May 25/26. It was fitting that the three celebrations and remembrances coincided. Much can be learnt from our First Nations People as we plant “seeds of Hope” in the lives and relationships across our various cultures. St Joseph’s school students led a special Celebration at their School assembly on May 24.

Pentecost – Church Crawl.

Approximately 180 people took part in the walk to celebrate Unity and the Birth of the Church. Led by Fr Don, Mother Kate, and Rev. Stuart, the faithful united in prayer, scripture, and song at each of the three Church stops.

A delightful afternoon tea followed at the Novakoski Centre.  Thanks to all who made the pilgrimage and to the many people who prepared and served the afternoon tea.

It was more than a “feel-good” exercise; it was a great demonstration of Christian Unity and fellowship.

Visit of Papal Nuncio and Bishop Michael

The visit began after arrival by train from Rockhampton. A well attended 11.30am concelebrated Mass was followed with a light luncheon and a visit to some unique sites in Bundaberg. In welcoming our visitors, Fr Don spoke of the role of the Nuncio as Pope Francis’ Ambassador. He also spoke warmly of Bishop Michael’s ten years as Bishop of our Diocese. Presentations of Bundaberg products were made to both.

It was a simple visit but one warmly received by our parishioners.

Baffle Creek Farewell

On Sunday, June 2, the worshipping community at Baffle Creek gathered for the monthly Mass and to farewell Brian and Olga Maranovic who are relocating. The Parish expresses its thanks to them for their generosity in maintaining the worshipping centre at Baffle Creek and prays that they be blessed in the future.

Confirmation

On the weekend of June 8/9, we welcomed Bishop Michael who during his Pastoral Visit of the Parish celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation for our candidates.

To all the children who celebrated their Confirmation:

May the gifts of the Holy Spirit continue to guide and inspire you throughout your life.

Wisdom – so you may see God’s work in the things that happen in your life and the world.

Understanding – so you may recognise the right way to live as a child of God.

Right Judgement – so you know what is right and wrong, and are able to choose good.

Courage – so you may be willing to stand up for what is right, even when it might be hard.

Knowledge – so you may understand what God has revealed to us in Christ and scripture.

Reverence – so you may have a deep sense of respect for God and his Church.

Wonder and Awe – so you are aware of the glory and majesty of God.

May God bless you always.

Memorial Service.

Twice yearly the relatives and friends of the recently deceased are invited to gather and pray for their departed loved ones and for themselves. Following the Service, our Bereavement Team hosts a light supper.

It is a grace-filled time for all and a wonderful opportunity to reach out to all who are grieving.
