Commissioning to the various Ministries

Ash Wednesday

February 22nd started our Lenten journey by receiving ashes on our foreheads, reminding us to “Repent and Believe in the Gospel”. Representatives from our four feeder schools were at Mass to collect ashes to take back to their individual schools.

Lent is a time to take stock of our lives – Am I being the person God wants me to be?  Lent is a time of transformation and conversion of our hearts.  A time to be mindful of what God has done for us.  We are saved by the action of Jesus on Good Friday, not by anything we have done.

Sacraments

Odessa Skye Hartley received the sacrament of Baptism at Mary Immaculate Church during Mass on Saturday night February 25th.  Odessa was accompanied by her mother Jessica and her Dad Gary and her sister and brother. Welcome to the family Odessa.

A parent information night for the 2023 Sacramental program, was held on Wednesday 1st March at Sacred Heart Church. This program has been updated and has undergone significant changes.

A Rite of Election Mass was held at St Joseph’s Cathedral in Rockhampton on Saturday February 25th.  The Rite of Election is an opportunity for the Bishop to meet those who are being welcomed into the church at Easter time through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.

Commissioning Mass

On March 5th at 9am Mass at Sacred Heart Church, staff and secondary school captains, members of our boards, leadership groups, finance committee and  RCIA group, were commissioned by Fr Matthew for 2023.  Thank you for your time, talent and treasure given to your ministry.

Gatherings

Our two monthly ‘Meet in the Middle’, was held on February 13th at the Waterline Cafe. This is always a lovely time to gather and celebrate life while surrounded by God’s beautiful creation.

World Day of Prayer was held on March 3rd at Mary Immaculate Church, Emu Park, with approximately 37 participants.  The World Day of Prayer is held in over 170 countries around the world on this day. This year the service was prepared by the women of Taiwan and had the title of – “I have heard about your faith”. Sr Sandra Hopkins was the guest speaker for the day and gave us a very informative talk. At the end of the service Sue Coad commissioned and prayed a blessing for the Uniting Church, who accepted the role of co-ordinators for the World Day of Prayer service in 2024.

Mary Immaculate parishioners shared their monthly meal after Mass on Saturday March 4th and Sacred Heart parishioners shared morning tea after Mass on March 5th. Coming together to share each other’s company is always a special time.

Welcome

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Sr Diana to the Capricorn Coast Parish Family. Sr Diana will be residing with Sr Kym at the Benedictine Monastery, Tanby. We pray that Sr Diana will enjoy being part of our community as much as we will enjoy having her here with us – Welcome Sr Diana!!

I pray that the Lord will reveal Himself more fully to each one of us this Lent, as we humbly open our hearts to Him. Amen.
