Bishop Michael’s Letter

Family and Friends at Bishop Michael's Ordination as Bishop of Rockhampton

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ

Ten years ago I arrived in the Diocese, and I remember your great welcome for me.  How quickly time has gone, and as I look over this past decade, I thank you for your friendship, encouragement and support as we have worked together for the mission of the Church in this Diocese.

Much of the last month I have been travelling.  The Australian Bishop’s held their May Plenary gathering in Sydney to consider matters affecting the Church in Australia, as well as connect with the various Councils and Commissions.  I did return in time to catch the end of Beef Week in Rockhampton.  It was good to connect with all the people and see how the industry is developing.  Many people from our communities, particularly the West, also joined the activities of the week.

I had the opportunity to connect with our Parish Administration Inservice at The Haven.  This is a chance for those in parish administration roles to connect, share ideas and receive some formation to assist them in the very important work they do.  Those in parish administration are often the first contact of Church for people, whether in-person, over the phone or online and manage a variety of tasks in their day-to-day operation.  I thank them for the work they do in supporting the mission of the Church.
