2023 Spirit of Catholic Education Award: Mrs Claire Stitt

21 August, 2023

The Cathedral College (TCC) community was overjoyed when College Assistant Principal: Mission and Deputy Principal, Mrs Claire Stitt was announced as the recipient of the 2023 Spirit of Catholic Education Award for the Diocese.
The Spirit of Catholic Education Awards are presented each year during Catholic Education Week to recognise those who have made an outstanding contribution to life in their Catholic Education community. Schools, Colleges, and Kindergartens nominate individuals or teams in their school communities who they believe embody the spirit of Catholic Education.

This year in our Diocese there were 31 Spirit of Catholic Education Award nominations and each of the nominees would be a worthy recipient of the overall Diocesan Spirit of Catholic Education Award.

2023 Award recipient, Mrs Stitt has served in a variety of roles at TCC over the past 25 plus years and her contribution to life at the College and to the Ministry of Catholic Education has been significant.

The following words contained in TCC’s nomination of Mrs Stitt very much encapsulate her personal and professional qualities and exemplify why she is a worthy recipient of the 2023 Diocesan Spirit of Catholic Education Award:  “Claire has worked with passion, care, and compassion to ensure that Catholic Identity and Catholic Ethos have remained at the very heart of TCC life. Claire treats students, their parents, teachers, support staff, religious, clergy, parishioners, and everyone she encounters with the utmost dignity and respect. Claire Stitt, the gift to TCC that keeps on giving”.

Mrs Stitt said she had enjoyed every moment of her many years of service at TCC, and she reflected on what she saw as a very special part of her role. “I love the opportunity that I have been given to take people on a journey to know the person of Jesus Christ. It is so rewarding to serve people by introducing them to mass and prayer. It is indeed a privilege,” she said.

Mr Stitt was presented with her Spirit of Catholic Education Award by Bishop Michael McCarthy at the Catholic Education Week Mass held in St Joseph’s Cathedral on Thursday 27 July.
