Srs Of Mercy Diamond Jubilee
19 July, 2024Family, friends and Sisters of Mercy gathered on Friday 5 July 2024 in Our Lady of Good Counsel Chapel, The Range, Rockhampton to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of two members, namely Sisters Dominica Camilleri and Margaret Dixon who were professed on 29 August 1964.
Prior to the commencement of Mass, Sr Anne Keim (Community Leader, North Qld) formally welcomed Bishop Michael McCarthy and priests, as well as Sisters Duyen Nguyen and Margaret Madden, Leadership Team Councillors of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Unfortunately, Sr Margaret Dixon wasn’t able to attend the celebration because of illness. However, Sr Margaret was acknowledged and remembered in a very special way by the Sisters and her invited guests, including Fr Peter Doherty, a former student of Marg’s from her time as Principal of St Mary’s School, South Bundaberg.
Both Srs Anne Keim and Berneice Loch paid tribute to Dominica and Margaret’s long years of serving God’s people in very different ministries: Dominica has been a hardworking, creative and talented housekeeper, caterer and dressmaker in our convents, boarding school and health-care facilities while Margaret’s ministry has been as teacher and principal in our Diocesan Catholic Primary Schools, then as campus minister at The Cathedral College (R’ton).
On behalf of those present and the Sisters of the Institute, Sr Anne offered sincere and heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Dominica and Margaret for their generosity, fidelity and lives of service. Though walking different paths, Dominica and Margaret have always maintained a supportive and enduring friendship with each other. Their personal gifts have enriched the lives of many people in our Diocese and beyond, where Dominica and Margaret have witnessed to Gospel values and a Mercy way of life. We join with our Diocesan family in honouring Srs Dominica Camilleri and Margaret Dixon; may the light and love of your Diamond Jubilee celebration carry you into the future!
