Springsure News

09 August, 2022

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish has had the pleasure of a number of Divine Word Missionary priests visit in support of our SVD priests during the past months.  Fr Asaeli Rass, SVD Provincial in Australia, accompanied Fr Francois for our Holy Week ceremonies, not just in body, but with guitar and wonderful singing voice as well, along with Fr Francois!  We also enjoyed a visit from Fr Sunil on Pentecost Sunday.  Fr Sunil is also a member of the SVD Provincial Council and he is currently the Director of the SVD Spirituality Centre in Melbourne.

Recently Fr Yon has been with us again, replacing Fr Truc who has now returned looking rested and relaxed following his home leave in Vietnam.  Fr Yon has now taken up his position of Vocations Director with the SVD team, based in Melbourne.  I’m sure he’ll miss our beautiful Winter days!  Fr Francois is also heading off on home leave to Madagascar, the first time he will have seen his family since before his ordination so he is very excited.  We look forward to welcoming him back in October.  Thank you to Fr Terry Loth who will be assisting Fr Truc in our parishes during this time.

We also recently celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with our four candidates – Chloe, Oliver, Lawson and Charlotte.  Unfortunately, due to illness, Bishop Michael was unable to attend but Frs Truc and Yon celebrated beautifully with the children.  Fr Yon’s message to remember Confirmation was summed up in three words – Belong, Believe, Become.  In coming weeks these children will begin their preparations to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time.

On 11th March, 2023, Springsure’s St Patrick’s Day Race Club will celebrate 70 years of racing.  This will be a special event for many and we hope that former members of our community might consider joining us for the day.  I’m sure that many of you throughout the diocese may also have photos or memorabilia of past race meetings and the St Pat’s Balls which you would like to share with us for this event.  If so, we would love to hear from you.  Please forward any queries or suggestions to
