News from the Capricorn Coast
19 June, 2024We start our newsletter with the children of the Parish and their families, attending a session for the preparation of their sacramental journey. We wish them all the very best and will keep them in our prayers as they journey closer and more deeply in their relationship with God.
On the 25th May, we saw Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Balvo, with Bishop Michael visiting the beautiful Capricorn Coast along with St Brendan’s Principal Rob Corboy, Principal of St Ursula’s, Deb Ryan and Fr Matthew.
The 29th May brought us together at St Joseph’s Cathedral, for Bishop Michael’s Thanksgiving Mass and a function afterwards, to celebrate 10 years of Episcopal Ministry in the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton. Students from St Benedict’s Primary School, Yeppoon, acted out the Gospel for this special Mass. Congratulations Bishop Michael and thank you for your leadership over the last 10 years.
June 1st had Mary Immaculate parishioners enjoying a shared meal after Mass and some of the tantalising smells drifting through church during Mass were very distracting. Thank you to all the cooks for providing the delicious food. The shared meals at Mary Immaculate and the morning teas at Sacred Heart, are a wonderful time of fellowship for our parishioners.
On June 2nd, Sacred Heart Church celebrated thirteen baptisms. What a time for celebration and joy. Congratulations to all these beautiful families. The feast day of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, was celebrated with Mass at Sacred Heart Church.
Fr Peter Tonti who is recuperating at the Capricorn Coast, joined Fr Matthew to celebrate Mass at Mary Immaculate Church on June 8th. Many parishioners remembered Fr Peter fondly and welcomed him back to our area. We hope to see a little more of him during his stay here.
Over the last month, we had quite a few of our marvellous parishioners celebrate special milestone birthdays – Frank Withoos 90, Pam Williams 80, Barry Abraham 90, Blair McWhinney 50, David Green 60, Alroy Eden 80, John McKenna 80. Congratulations to you all and we pray you will be richly blessed in the years ahead.
Another Meet in the Middle was held on June 10th, and a fun fact – that out of the 16 parishioners present, there were 4 ladies called Mary, 2 ladies called Helen and 2 men called John. See you at our next gathering on Monday July 8th at the Waterline Cafe commencing at 10am.
More celebrations were held on Wednesday June 12th, when we gathered for a Mass of Thanksgiving for Leesa Jeffcoat, who has been Diocesan Director of Catholic Education for over twenty years. We thanked God for the blessing that Leesa has been to the diocese and wish her all the very best for a wonderful future.
To conclude we would like to call your attention to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Donations of blankets and warm clothing would be very much appreciated and can be taken to any of the Vinnie Shops. Please let the shop volunteers know that these items are for the Winter Appeal. Envelopes are also available for any monetary donations. Thank you for your support in advance.
