News from Gladstone
20 July, 2021Farewell to Simeon
We farewelled Fr Simeon a second time from Gladstone. We didn’t have enough time for a formal farewell as a whole parish so we collated many photos of his experience and celebrated with a whole parish signed card.
One child wrote, “We love you Father Simeon and we will miss you. Thank you for being a great priest.”
SOS Youth Events
After a start in term 2 of our parish youth group running on Sunday afternoons, we shifted to 5 main events for term 3 over different times and different days. Youth events kick off with a Bonfire night of music, munchies and marshmallows.
We also plan to hold a girls and boys afternoon delivered by our men and women’s ministry, a fundraiser movie date night, other formation and a rock-climbing break up party.
We’re also promoting the Ignite conference in September, taking a Chanel bus of young people.
Sacrament of First Holy Communion preparation
Over the last few weeks, the Formation team at Star of the Sea have worked arduously to deliver the formation package to the families and children receiving their First Holy Communion next week. There are 106 candidates making the sacrament so the formation session was active and informing. Understanding that we receive the true body and blood of Christ and how to receive it were key features of the formation.
Altar Server training in Gladstone
With seven Mass centres in the Parish of Gladstone, Altar Servers receive specific training for their specific community.
At Tannum Sands Mass centre, St Peter Chanel church 12 young people gathered for training either for the first time or for a refresher.
We were joined by our seminarians Michael Tran and Bradley Davis visiting our parish for a few days.
They assisted Father Andrew and the APRE, Meredith Grove in providing information to help the young people on their journey. We welcomed the opportunity after so long under Covid to revisit Altar sServers and their role in the church.
