News from Clermont
11 February, 2025
This year St Joseph’s will celebrate 125 years of Catholic education to the Clermont community. April 1900 saw a group of sisters conduct a school in the church, under the direction of Mother Mary MacKillop (now St Mary of the Cross MacKillop). Although St Mary of the Cross MacKillop did not journey to Clermont, the sisters she entrusted built a school based on the message of Jesus Christ. A message of hope and life and the message of God’s incredible love for God’s people. Our school today, with its modern buildings and continuous upgrades of resources, is a far cry from the school in the church and the temporary boarding facilities it once was. But there remains one constant – the message! And with the charism of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop being at the core of what we do, we continue to make that one commitment: to teach and be witnesses of the faith in Christ, our teacher!
We will have many opportunities this year to pay our respects and thank all who have taken up the vocation to provide Catholic Education in Clermont over the years with a mass and an open school day this semester. We will be promoting this milestone event in the coming weeks and will be asking for past staff, students and parents of St Joseph’s to assist with any memorabilia that they may have. Please keep up to date with any Facebook posts on our school’s page for these details.
