News from Blackwater, Dingo, Duaringa and Woorabinda
25 April, 2025
As Holy Week unfolded, our Parish Priest Fr. Kingsley Ihuoma and our Parishioners were actively engaged in the sacred rhythm of this season, with heartfelt participation across all churches in our area including Blackwater, Dingo, Duaringa and Woorabinda.
Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday Masses were celebrated on April 13 at 9:00 am in Blackwater and 10:30 am in Dingo, marking the beginning of Holy Week in a truly moving way. The Dingo Mass, in particular, was a standout—full of warmth, reverence, and a beautiful sense of togetherness. Parishioners gathered with palms in hand, their hearts open, as the Gospel brought Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem to life. There was a quiet power in the air, a deep stillness between prayers, and a shared sense of awe that made the liturgy feel especially sacred. It was one of those Masses that lingers with you—a moment of peace, faith, and community that set the perfect tone for the journey through Holy Week.
Holy Week Services
We continued our Holy Week journey with a rich program of liturgies, beginning with the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper. Good Friday featured a heartfelt Ecumenical Service at Rotary Park with the Stations of the Cross at 9:00 am, followed by an evening liturgy at 6:00 pm at Mary Immaculate. The day concluded with a movie night screening The Passion of the Christ and the sharing of hot cross buns in the Parish Hall. The Easter Triduum concluded with a reverent Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday, celebrating the light of Christ rising in glory. This was followed by joyful Easter Sunday Masses in Duaringa, Blackwater and Woorabinda, where the churches were filled with music, flowers, and the spirit of Resurrection. After Mass in Blackwater, parishioners and members of the wider community gathered for a vibrant celebration featuring morning tea, fellowship, and fun Easter activities for children. It was a beautiful expression of shared faith, joy, and the hope of new life in Christ.
Visit from Joy Philippi
Earlier this month we were blessed to welcome Joy Philippi, Executive Officer of Mission for the Diocese of Rockhampton. Joy spent time with our parish community, offering encouragement and insight as we continue to grow in faith and mission. Her visit was a joyful and affirming reminder of our connection to one another and to the wider diocesan family.
