In Memory of Dorothy Demack
19 July, 2024Dorothy Demack had a wide and profound influence in the Rockhampton Region since coming here in 1978 following her husband Alan’s appointment as Central Judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland. Raising five children gave her many connections in the area. As her son, said in his eulogy, ‘her faith gave a
sense of purpose and order to her life’. Being a Sunday School teacher, then lay pastor in the Uniting Church and hospital chaplain allowed her goodness, forthrightness and friendliness to shine even more. She was on the Animal Ethics Committee at CQU for over twenty years.
The Ecumenical movement was close to her heart and she had a gift for bringing groups of Christians together in dialogue. While committed to her own Church, she was open to hearing the views of all people. She was a Delegate to the Queensland Churches Together and each year was the organiser of the Christians Dialogue Process in Rockhampton. Sr Beryl Amedee said she was a delight to work with. She was deeply involved in Rockhampton Churches Together. As her daughter said, she was involved in so many church activities over the years that it would be impossible to give details.
Our condolences and prayers go out to her husband Alan and their children.
Her husband Alan wrote an account of her rich and full life as in insert for the Order of Service. It can be found at this link: Dorothy Demack by Alan Demack.
Her son, Ian, delivered the following moving eulogy: Dorothy Demack’s Eulogy given by her son Ian.
