Diocesan Social Justice Group – What we got up to in 2024 and our plans for 2025
18 February, 2025Well our group had quite a busy year in 2024; with our regular monthly meetings and then various activities throughout the year. We really focussed on trying to extend our Diocesan connection and communication; with regular updates provided to our Bishop and within the Diocesan and parish newsletters. We also visited the Diocesan Pastoral Council to better liaise with them on our work; and will do this yearly.
We again focussed energy on the annual Social Justice Statement, with a summary of the statement included in the Diocesan newsletter. We also offered a workshop to our Diocesan priests to facilitate discussion and dissemination of the Social Justice Statement.
Other activities for the year included:
• Ongoing advocacy of local asylum seekers, including some national action
• Getting Diocesan involvement and collaboration to create a Social Justice calendar which will soon be distributed across the Diocese
• Leadership of Priest’s retreat on L’audato Si
• Sharing of Social Justice Values and practice wisdom and knowledge, including CST (Catholic Social Teaching).
During 2025 we hope to continue to broaden our communication across the Diocese so that we can further raise our profile and ensure we’re known as part of the overall Diocesan pastoral plan. We also hope to build better local community contacts across the regions with the upcoming Diocesan gathering one option for facilitating this. The Diocesan gathering is scheduled for April 12th so watch this space for more details regarding that.
