SOLEMN MASS OF INSTALLATION FOR NEW ROCKHAMPTON BISHOP DANNY MEAGHER

Thursday 28 May will be a joyous and historical day for the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton community. A Mass will be celebrated at 10.30am in St Joseph’s Cathedral to install Bishop Daniel Meagher as the 11th Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton.

The Mass of Installation for Bishop Danny follows the announcement that Pope Leo XIV had appointed Bishop Danny as Bishop of the Rockhampton Diocese succeeding Bishop Michael McCarthy who retired after providing wise, caring and visionary leadership of the Diocese over the past twelve (12) years.

Prior to his appointment as the Bishop of Rockhampton, Bishop Danny was serving as an Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Sydney. His priestly ministry has seen him serve in many Sydney Parishes in addition to holding various roles such as the Director of Catechesis for World Youth Day, Director of Mission for CatholicCare, Director of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate, Administrator of the Cathedral at Broken Bay and Rector of the Good Shepherd Seminary.

Included among those attending the Mass of Installation for Bishop Danny on Thursday 28 May will be the Apostolic Nuncio to Australia, Archbishop Charles Balvo, the Archbishop of the Brisbane Archdiocese, Archbishop Shane Mackinlay, Bishop Emeritus Michael McCarthy, other Diocesan Bishops, Priests of the Rockhampton and other Dioceses, leaders of other faith communities, family and friends of Bishop Danny and members of the Rockhampton Catholic and wider communities.

Bishop Danny said he was looking forward to the Solemn Mass of Installation with a deep sense of humility and with a passionate commitment to serving the people of the Rockhampton Diocese as their Bishop.

“All are welcome to attend the Solemn Mass of Installation, and I look forward to meeting the people of the Rockhampton community and to listening with an open heart as to how I can best serve their needs and carry forward the wonderful pastoral and prayerful leadership that Bishop Michael has provided for the Diocese over the past twelve (12) years” Bishop Danny said.

As the Solemn Mass of Installation for Bishop Danny draws near, Bishop Michael said it had been a privilege and a very humbling experience to serve the people of the Diocese for twelve (12) years.

“I know the Solemn Mass of Installation on Thursday will be a very special occasion in the life of our Diocese and I pray God will richly bless Bishop Danny in his leadership in the years to come” Bishop Michael said.
