Graduate Accountant
A great opportunity exists for one Graduate Accountant to kick off 2025 by joining a dynamic team in a values-based NFP, supporting the Finance Manager and accounting operations of the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton. The role will assist in meeting management and financial reporting obligations.
The Graduate Accountant is responsible for:
Producing monthly financial reports including cash flow, profit and loss, and balance sheet statements
Producing annual financial reports and budgets
Preparing and submitting returns to meet current statutory and legislative obligations, including those imposed by various governing bodies
Prepare work papers for audit
Maintaining the fixed asset register
Preparing and completing journals
Keeping abreast of accounting standards and best practices
Ensuring the integrity of accounting systems and the currency of transactional data
Performing periodic reconciliations of the general ledger and balance sheet
Participating in work area meetings
Ensuring timely reporting and compliance.
The successful candidate will have the following:
Degree in Business, Commerce, Accountancy or related discipline
Ability to analyse, interpret, reconcile, and communicate financial information
Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks with competing timelines
Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills allied to practical judgement
Ability to learn, with direction from Financial Accountant
Good financial acumen
Intermediate computer software skills, including Microsoft Excel and accounting packages
Ability to understand internal controls and process improvement
Good interpersonal skills
Active participant in the Catholic Church community and/or lifestyle compatible with the values and teachings of the Church
