Safeguarding Policy

The Diocese of Rockhampton has completed a review of the Safeguarding Policy and is please to release an updated policy, ‘Edition 2’.  After a thorough review, the Diocese would like to thank the Safeguarding Committee for all their work in assisting with the update of this important policy.

The policy is intended to provide a uniform standard of best practice in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.  It contains the policy statement that articulates the core principles, church documents and legislation upon which it is based.  The safeguarding procedures are built around four key domains:

  • Safe recruitment and selection processes
  • Code of ethical behaviour
  • Safe activities and environments
  • Responding to concerns, allegations and disclosures

The first edition of the policy was promulgated by Bishop Michael McCarthy in June 2016, with the updated version (edition 2) being completed on the 24th November 2017.

The Diocesan Safeguarding policy applies to everyone who works within the Diocese of Rockhampton. That is clergy, religious, employees, students on placement, volunteers and agencies operating within the Diocese.
